The Covid-19 pandemic has put an huge added layer of pervasive stress on everyone's plate. One of the first things to be affected when we are chronically stressed is our sleeping habits. There are many sedative essential oils for sleep, so this list is by no means prescriptive. I've listed a few of my go-to favorites below that have helped me get through some sleepless nights.
Vetiver is a tall grass with extra long roots to help it ground into the earth. Oozing like a golden honey, vetiver smells a bit like a grassy, woody, almost dirt-like scent. I do not diffuse this as it will clog my nebulizing diffuser, but I love to add one drop into my hot bath before I go to sleep.
While some people love to not give lavender a chance due to its overwhelming popularity, it is popular as a relaxing essential oil for a reason! Lavender is one of the most universally helpful EOs—from wound healing to mood enhancing to calming the nervous system. The trick is to find a really high quality lavender.
Just like the chamomile tea that I'm sipping right now, chamomile essential oil is a wonderful oil to help you sleep. Warning, it has a very strong sweet apple-like aroma which can be overwhelming when used alone. I personally love to blend this with lavender and use as a rollerball before bed, applying to the temples, back of the ears and wrists.
What are your favorite essential oils to help you sleep?
